Permanent Lok Adalat

Permanent Lok Adalat have been constituted on the 15th day of May, 2006 - one at State level at Agartala and one each at District level at Agartala, Udaipur and Kailashahar as per provisions of section 22B of the Act. The Permanent Lok Adalat is also presided over by a District Judge/Retired District Judge as the Chairman with 2 (two) eminent Social Workers of which one is a woman as Members. The Permanent Lok Adalats have jurisdiction over cases relating to Public Utility Services (PUS) namely –

* Transport services for carriage of passenger or goods by air, road or water; or
* Postal, telegraph or telephone services; or
* Supply of water, light or power to public by any establishment; or
* System of public conservancy or sanitation; or
* Services in hospital or dispensary; or
* Insurance services.

Any party to a dispute may, before the dispute is brought before any Court, make an application to the Permanent Lok Adalat for settlement of dispute. The pecuniary jurisdiction of the Permanent Lok Adalat has been set to a maximum monetary value of Rs.10,00,000 (ten lakh) only.

The Permanent Lok Adalats have also the power to decide a case on the merit if the parties are unable to arrive at any settlement or compromise, or if the dispute does not relate to any offence.
